Chasing a further 13 runs for victory against Warrnambool at the Terang Turf, this was achieved four wickets down.

Looking to add runs to put the opposition back in was tough going as the ground had slowed up and there was a further delay because of rain.

A 63 run partnership for the sixth wicket saw a declaration when Tyson Hay was dismissed for 49 off 54 balls.

Max Heffernan, in his return to the top side, was 18 not out.

The Lions had until 6.30pm to bowl out Warrnambool.

The visitors managed to face 43 overs and were 7-81 at stumps.

Ben Woodward, bowling medium pace and taking the new ball, took 2-11 from six overs.

Five bowlers took a wicket each with some rarely used bowlers taking their first division one wicket, with Stephen O’Connor taking 1/6 and Max Heffernan also 1/6.

Regular bowlers Gus Bourke, Tim Delaney and Tyson Hay were the other wicket takers.

This win has propelled the side to fifth on the ladder, less than three points behind fourth placed side Port Fairy.

This weekend sees a return to one-day cricket with the Lions hosting West Warrnambool.

- SUNGOLD DIVISION 1 PREMIER

TWO DAY MATCH
NOORAT TERANG V WARRNAMBOOL
Noorat Terang 6-d/132 (50.5) defeated Warrnambool 10/62 & 7/81 (42.5)

The Lions division two side had the bye and will play Allansford Panmure, who are on equal points with the Lions, at Panmure.

Noorat Terang’s division four team was at Noorat against Northern Raiders.

This result was decided by the Duckworth/Lewis method due to time lost by rain.

The Raiders batted first and were able to face their 40 overs, finishing on 9-82.

Co-captain Jack Kenna finished with the amazing figures of 3/0 off three overs.

Dean Abbott also took 3/6 from eight overs.

Oscar Ritchie achieved his best bowling figures for the Lions of 3/5.

The revised equation was 50 off 20 overs and this was achieved at the start of the sixth over for the loss of just one wicket.

Run machine Dean Abbott was 26 not out off 17 balls and Ritchie 15 not out off 12.

This week the division four Lions travel to Port Fairy for their last game before the Christmas break.

The under 17s played a one-day game on Sunday at the Terang Turf against Mortlake Cobden and finished their two-day game against Port Fairy on Tuesday with mixed results.

Against Mortlake Cobden they bowled out the visitors for 141 with Lachlan Primmer and Jack Farrell both taking three wickets.

Charlie Roberts took two wickets with singles to Sam Lillico and Max Heffernan.

With 45 overs to make 142 Max Heffernan was the only player to put up resistance, making 58 out of the team score of 93.

No other player reached double figures.

However, in the second week of their game against Port Fairy, defending 186, the young Lions bowled out the visitors for 77.

Lucia Clarke took 3/6 from five overs, Max Heffernan took 2/14, Jack Farrell 2/13 and Lachlan Primmer 2/5.

The Lions had a second innings and were 8-128 off 14 overs.

Heffernan made a quick fire 39 from just 24 balls with four fours and two sixes.

Likewise, Jack Farrell hit 31 off 23 with three boundaries.

Sam Lillico was next best with 15.

This Sunday they will play a Twenty20 against Hawkesdale at the Terang Turf and then travel to Jetty Flat to play Russells Creek in the afternoon.

The under 15s weren’t able to defend 201 against Nestles.

The home side recovered from 6/57 to make 7/255.

Harper Dillion had the best figures, taking 2/14.

Riley McIntosh finished with 2/21.

Ned Abbott, Lucia and Ollie Clarke all took a wicket.

This Friday they host the Northern Raiders in a two-day game before the Christmas break.

Rain significantly impacted the result of the under 13s against Allansford-Panmure.

The match started as a two-day game with the Lions batting first and making 2/104 from half of the allotted overs.

The visitors started their innings and rain didn’t allow them to bat their overs on the first Saturday.

Resuming last Saturday Allansford-Panmure batted out 24 overs to be 2/124 before rain ended the match giving them victory.

Next game for the under 13s is a two-day game playing Saturday and Thursday against Raiders-Nirranda at Purnim.
