Questions and answers: Harness Racing trainer and equine nutrition expert Lisa Justice joined Terang Co-op Rural Store’s Gary Tempany and Darren Gee for a free information session which the Rural Store hosted as part of new concept to bring more value to customers.

Last Wednesday evening a free information seminar was held with EAC Equine’s Lisa Justice, a harness racing trainer with more than 35 years’ experience, exploring nutritional and equine health.

The talk encompassed nutrition in feeding horses, from looking at the digestive system and process to gain a deeper understanding of nutrient absorption to what feed and supplements can make a positive difference.

The evening marked the second information session which has been hosted thanks to the Rural Store, after the first session in April with agronomist Rhys Cottam-Starkey from AGF Seeds enjoyed a strong showing of support from the community.

Terang and District Co-op chief executive officer Gary Tempany said the move was part of plans to strengthen the viability of the Rural Store through enhancing what it offers.

“We want to provide additional value to our customers and members,” he said.

“We’ve got some things of interest so for our first session we had an agronomist come in and talk about seeds.

“Getting Lisa in to talk about equine health was important because we’ve found there are a lot of people out here involved in training, breeding, members of pony clubs or even casual owners who just love horses.

“As we go on the journey of getting the Rural Store back on the map we will be hosting these kinds of sessions which are of interest to people, keeping up to speed with all the latest research and trends.”

More than two dozen people were in attendance for the discussion with Ms Justice.

Mr Tempany said he was delighted to see the sessions striking a chord with the community.

“We’re really happy with the turnout we’ve seen at both sessions,” he said.

“There’s so many different segments of the equine fraternity so we’re please we could support something of value.

“We’ll look to host more information sessions, which we’ll post about on Facebook and in fliers around the stores.”
