As Western District Newspapers reported in March, two cow-shaped benches have been installed in the park and there are now plans for kangaroo and koala sculptures to follow.

Simpson and District Community Centre coordinator Debra Smith is organising for these sculptures to be painted, but she said she’s hoping for more members of the community to take part.

“Each piece portioned out to be painted on the sculptures is around A5 size, but they’re not all squares or of equal size,” she said.

“No artistic skills are needed as each person’s contribution will be their interpretation of what they love about the community, or what brought them to the community.

“People are welcome to use words, symbols or whatever they choose.

“We have paint and brushes here and are asking people to call ahead to ensure they have access to the sculptures.

“Ideally the sculptures will be completed by the end of June for installation in the park.”

Simpson and District Community Centre is located at 11 Jayarra Street and any interested participants of any age should contact the centre on 5594 3448 to organise a time to go in and paint.
