Joint premier competition for SWC and Colac

CRICKET in the region is set to take on a new look in the 2025/26 season with the creation of a new top tier men’s competition.

A meeting was held on Tuesday night in Camperdown where the seven South West Cricket division one clubs voted on a proposal to form a joint premier competition with the eight division one teams of the Colac District Cricket Association.

The vote went 4-3 in favour of a 15-team premier competition.

Bookaar, Ecklin, Pomborneit and Woorndoo were in favour of the proposal, with Camperdown, Cobden and Heytesbury/Princetown voting against the proposal.

Boorcan has withdrawn from division one competition for the upcoming season and was ineligible to vote.

The mooted 15 team competition would see the seven remaining South West division one teams line up against CDCA clubs Alvie, Apollo Bay, Birregurra, City United, Colac, Irrewarra, Simpson and Stoneyford.

Each team would play each other once in the 50 over format that both competitions have based their top level competitions around for several years.

The CDCA will hold its annual general meeting next Monday, with further discussions between the two organisations to follow.

Both competitions would continue to run their own lower grade and junior competitions and remain as separate identities.

The CDCA had previously endorsed the potential new competition decided by their board structure, while the delegate system run by South West Cricket required a club vote.
