Improvements for historic hall

Darlington Mechanics Institute Hall and Recreation Reserve committee of management secretary treasurer Trish Wynd praised the workers from Bendigo.

“We had somebody start last year, but they couldn’t finish the job,” she said.

“They’ve done a lot of hard labour, which has been very appreciated, and they’ve got a good working crew.”

The Darlington community has also supported the works, with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) brigade loaning use of their tanker to create concrete and residents helping to clear the site once the restumping works were completed.

Flooring within the hall is expected to be laid within coming weeks.

Mrs Wynd said the committee was aiming to complete major maintenance projects while they were the current custodians of the building.

“It’s been there for 150 years now, so we’re just fixing it for the next 150 years,” she said.

“The flooring will go down in the next month, and hopefully we’ll get back to all the social events we have missed out on over the past two
