Illness strikes table tennis teams

AS winter illnesses hit, two teams required fill-in players for the latest round of competition at Terang Table Tennis.

However, both matches finished with 6-5 results with the two top teams victorious.

Rhino’s defeated Ghanda, with Tony Young and Vesha Chapagai winning two singles each and John Rantall winning a singles.

For Ghanda, Callum McSween had revenge for his first round shock loss to defeat Vesha Chapagai 5-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9.

Callum won all his singles while Peter Maina won one singles.

TIC defeated I Don’t Care in an evenly fought contest which saw rubbers 6-5 and 20 games each won.

The standout match, which in the end decided the result, saw Colin Venn and Tyler Smith come from two games down in the doubles against fill-in Mark Smith and Michael Pearson to win 8-11, 9-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-9.

Colin and Tyler won two of their singles with Ian Rochfort winning one.

Mark Smith won his three singles and the doubles with Shai Karney, Michael Pearson won a singles.

Ladder: TIC 20, Rhino’s 20, I Don’t Care 12, Ghanda 12, Battlers 8.
