This year the report will be done on Fridays before the weekend, instead of the Monday following.

Weekend events will be delayed slightly, however, will be covered in the following week’s paper.

The opening night tournament was well attended, with 71 players at the Simpson Hall.

Many had travelled far and wide, including Camperdown, Cobden, Colac, Glenormiston, Laang-Ecklin, Mepunga, Peterborough, Simpson and Timboon.

A wonderful night of indoor bowls was had, with an amazing supper and in the end there were only two teams with three wins each.

Runners-up for the night were: George Draffen (s), Allan Beasy, Graeme Chamberlain and Joan Laing with 90 points and +9 shots.

Congratulations to the winners and runners-up and thanks to those who played and those who brought supper.

Round one pennant last Wednesday saw Laang-Ecklin host Camperdown 1 in division one.

There wasn’t much separating both sides, with the home team taking a one shot lead half way through the match.

The next five ends were mainly Camperdown 2, adding five shots to Laang-Ecklin’s one shot but a triple to the home side on end 15 squared the ledger at 11-all with three ends to play.

The visitors broke the ice with a single but the home side picked up a double on the penultimate end to be one shot up on the last.

Laang-Ecklin drew Camperdown 2, 13 all.

Cobden 1 hosted Mepunga 1 and both teams were fairly even through the first six ends of the match, with Mepunga 1 taking a slight lead 6-4.

Mepunga 1 kept working, adding to their score and by end 12, were seven shots up on Cobden 1.

The home side then mounted a last ditch defence and closed the gap to four shots with three ends to play.

Cobden 1 lost to Mepunga 1, 10-15.

The third match saw Timboon Lawn 1 host Glenormiston 1 and the match was close in the first eight ends, with the visitors taking a slight lead 9-5.

Glenormiston 1 then pushed forward, with 11 shots in the next five ends, extending their lead out to 13.

Timboon Lawn 1 picked up a single on the next end, but jack also took a trip.

Unfortunately for Glenormiston 1 Second Bec, jack made some disparaging comments, got taken out back with the bowl and picked up a triple on the replay.

Timboon Lawn 1 lost to Glenormiston 1, 10-25.

Rounding out the division one coverage, Camperdown 2 hosted Timboon Lawn 2 and both teams were level at five all after the first seven ends of the match.

Timboon Lawn 2 broke the deadlock with a triple and unfortunately for Camperdown 2 skip Gerard, jack was uncooperative twice on end nine; with Timboon Lawn 2 picking up a double on the replay.

Camperdown 2 lost to Timboon Lawn 2, 10-29.

In division two, Mepunga 3 hosted Glenormiston 2 and both teams were level through the first seven ends at four shots each.

Mepunga 3 then dropped the hammer, keeping Glenormiston 2 at bay for the rest of the match.

Mepunga 3 def. Glenormiston 2, 17-8.

Glenormiston 3 hosted Simpson 1 and the visitors got off to a flying start, leading 15-3 after the first six ends.

Glenormiston 3 rallied in the next six ends, reducing the gap to nine after Simpson 1 third Maria showed jack life off the mat, with a single on the replay.

The home side then fought back, adding eight shots on ends 13 through 15 to be behind by one shot, 19-20.

On the next end, Simpson 1 picked up a double and kept Glenormiston 3 to a similar margin to close out the match.

Glenormiston 3 lost to Simpson 1, 21-22.

Mepunga 2 played host to Cobden 2 and the visitors kept the home team at bay, with the score 12-1 after seven ends.

The next six ends saw Cobden 2 add 10 shots to close the gap to one shot down with five ends to play.

A quad and double to Mepunga 2 on ends 14 and 15 kept Cobden 2 at bay.

Mepunga 2 def. Cobden 2, 20-14.

Closing out division two, Timboon Lawn 3 hosted Scotts Creek 1 and the home side got off to a flyer, which wasn’t helped by Scotts Creek 1 skip Jack showing the smaller jack where the Tim Tams were hiding off the mat.

Scotts Creek 1 fought back in the mid part of the match, but Timboon Lawn 3 had all the answers.

Timboon Lawn 3 def. Scotts Creek 1, 25-8.

In division three, Peterborough hosted Scotts Creek 2.

The visitors got off to a cracking start, unfortunately aided by Peterborough second Graeme and skip Charles who showed jack the world outside the green carpet.

Peterborough lost to Scotts Creek 2, 13-28

Cobden 3 hosted Mepunga 4 and the home side kept the visitors at bay for the first half of the match, unfortunately aided by Mepunga 4 third James telling jack about exciting holiday options off the mat.

The home side kept pressing forward, but Mepunga 4 skip Karl sent jack off the mat.

On end 16, jack was also disciplined off the mat twice – by Mepunga 4 third James and Cobden 3 third Gerrit.

Cobden 3 def. Mepunga 4, 35-15.
