Green light for Premier division
THE new proposed premier regional competition has been given the go ahead after a vote of the Colac District Cricket Association’s board on Monday night.
The 11-person board voted seven in favour, two against and two absent on the night.
South West Cricket delegates had already endorsed the proposal at a meeting in August.
The new division one competition will be known as the Colac South West Premier Cricket competition and will feature 15 teams from the two associations.
South West clubs Bookaar, Camperdown, Cobden, Ecklin, Heytesbury-Princetown, Pomborneit and Woorndoo will be joined by CDCA clubs Alvie, Apollo Bay, Birregurra, City United, Colac, Irrewarra, Simpson and Stoneyford.
A working committee featuring members from both associations has been working on competition rules and ironing out the differences between the competitions in recent weeks.
Both associations will still maintain their separate identities, with lower grade and junior competitions to remain unchanged.
The first season of the united division one competition will run as a trial, with a vote to take place at the end of the season to see if both associations want to maintain the joint venture.
The South West Cricket board is expected to meet with clubs in coming days to confirm and spell out further details of the move.
