Timboon Demons’ player Sam Newey celebrated his 200th senior appearance with wife Rachel and children Isaac (5), Jax (4) and Ellie (1).

“I finally got there” was the reaction of popular clubman Sam Newey as he made his 200th senior appearance for the Demons in their first home game of the 2025 season.

Timboon skipped out to a six-point lead at quarter time but that's where the party ended for Newey and the Demons.

Allansford piled on 17 goals to two in the next three quarters.

“New coach Andrew Hargreaves has put together a great group; it will take a few weeks to gel as a team, but the enthusiasm is there and we have the players to move forward,” Newey said after his milestone game.

Allansford forward colossus Robbie Hare kicked nine goals, with Newey playing on the Cats’ spearhead for some of the game.

“He's a hard unit to get around, but I enjoyed the challenge, having a crack at taking on the best players is an aspect of the game I still love,” Newey said.

Despite the loss, Newey said there was plenty of upside for the Demons.

“We had a crack, especially early. We know our skills are something we need to work on and we will do that,” he said.

“Despite the result, we feel there was plenty of upside.”

The milestone has taken a long time to come for the 33 year old Newey, conceding injuries have held him back.

“Last season I had plenty of injury interruptions, but I was able to do a proper pre-season this year which was pleasing and I am feeling better for it.”

Newey said there was a great vibe around the club, with 40-50 getting to most trainings.

As to his future, the long-time Demon was positive.

“The old man (Phil Newey) played 300 (at the Timboon Saints) andI’m keen to give that a crack if the body holds up.”

Continuing the family theme, Newey and brother Ben were both named in the best players for Timboon, alongside Ash Hunt and Marcus Hickey.

In other results on the day, Timboon’s reserves lost by 17 points, the under 18 and under 13 Demons had wins while their under 15 boys had a 37 point loss.

With a week off for Easter, Timboon next take to the field on April 26 against South Rovers at the Walter Oval.
