Funds raised for resident comfort
RESIDENTS at Mount View are relaxing in the comfort of new reclining chairs thanks in part to a successful fundraising event.

Terang and Mortlake Health Service (TMHS) was able to purchase eight new leather reclining chairs for residents at the aged care facility to enjoy.
The chairs were purchased following a trivia night fundraiser, which proved a rousing success.
TMHS enrolled nurse Karen O’Brien had been a driving force behind bringing the fundraiser to life.
“We wanted to raise some money for an electric lift chair, so we decided we would hold a trivia night which we held in October,” she said.
“We walked around town and asked people if they were willing to donate and we got a very good community response to that.
“There was a heap of donations and our trivia night was completely booked out.
“Staff volunteered on the night, prepared all the questions and answers and we got Ricky Birmingham to host it along with other staff.
“We also got a donation from a local charity (undisclosed upon request), so with all the money raised we were able to purchase the electric lift chairs.”
Mrs O’Brien said all involved were elated with the success of the event.
“We had probably 100 people attend our trivia night,” she said.

“We raised $4500 at our trivia night – all eight chairs cost $30,000 and we were also able to purchase tables and a hallstand.
“We’re also looking at adding chairs for the dining tables which could help some of our residents.”
The residents agreed the new chairs are a welcome addition, providing heightened comfort and manoeuvrability in a popular space which features far-ranging views.
“They’re all leather so they’re more durable, easier to clean and they’re all electric with a lift component and adjustments,” Mrs O’Brien said.
“It’s easier for staff and easier for the residents.
“The room is used quite often – it has a big television and we play board games.”
Mrs O’Brien thanked those who had helped to raise the funds, in addition to those behind the anonymous charitable donation.
“We can’t thank everyone enough,” she said.
“It has made the resident’s lives so much easier and so much more comfortable.
“It looks more amicable with better ambiance.”
