Funds flow prior to caretaker period

TWO businesses are set to benefit from Corangamite Shire Council’s Business Assistance Scheme (BAS) following a Special Meeting of Council on September 16.

Councillors unanimously voted to provide funding of $4495 to the two applications under two streams of the scheme.

Camperdown Nursery and Mart received $2000 in funding under stream two to assist in funding their annual Night Market event on Ware Street.

Stream two, creative industries and placemaking, aims to support and build the capacity of businesses, creatives and entrepreneurs to create and deliver projects in public spaces or in areas that are accessible to the public.

Timboon’s Effluent Solutions Australia and Engineer It received $2495 to fund the installation of new signage under stream one of the BAS.

Stream one, business façade improvement, supports businesses with street frontage to undertake façade improvements to increase their visibility.

Councillor Ruth Gstrein moved the motion, saying both applications met the criteria set out under the BAS for funding.

“This is a really good business assistance scheme, with the number of fields and different streams that people can apply for,” she said.

“We’ve got two really good applications here from Effluent Solutions Australia and Camperdown Nursery and Mart.”

Cr Nick Cole seconded the motion.

“The good thing about these is one’s a new business and one is another business trying out something a little bit different to keep things ticking along and hopefully going ahead,” he said,

“It’s always good to try and get these sorts of things out if the work well and good.”

Cr Gstrein said part of the motion included authorising the chief executive officer (CEO) to approve grant applications received and assessed during the caretaker period, which started last Tuesday.

“I’m pleased to move that we authorise the CEO to approve applications during caretaker period, which can be a period of about a couple of months and we don’t want to hold businesses up by not being able to get their scheme applications assessed,” she said.
