At last week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, councillors unanimously approved $39,832.54 in matched funding to groups across the shire for projects across two categories – projects over $3000, and projects under $3000.

In the over $3000 category, funding was allocated to projects which included irrigation upgrades at the Panmure Recreation Reserve ($4162.55), showjumping equipment for the Caramut Riding Club ($4812.50) and a $4798.49 investment in to water access and sustainability for the Laang Speedway Club.

Moyne Shire Council mayor councillor Karen Foster said the fund supports community facilities, acquisition of equipment and assistance toward community programs and initiatives.

“It’s so important to support groups, clubs and organisations to make improvements on community facilities, assets and programs so they’re fit for purpose,” she said.

“Combined with the first round of funding, over the past year we have provided $202,500 to groups right across Moyne Shire for a wide range of projects and equipment.

“This funding encourages a self-help culture amongst groups and creates collaborative partnerships with council that help build stronger communities.

“We’re very keen to see these projects come to life and congratulate all the latest funding recipients.”

Cr Foster said $19,782.04 had also been awarded in the under $3000 category, which were approved by chief executive officer Mark Eversteyn.

She said these projects included plumbing repairs for the Mortlake and District Historical Society, fitness equipment for the senior community at the Mortlake Senior Citizens centre, the replacement out outdoor blinds at East Framlingham Golf Club, a defibrillator for the Victoria Park Committee of Management, a table tennis table for Cudgee Primary School and leadership training for Beach Patrol Australia Incorporated.
