Friday night footy to kick off season
THE 2024 Hampden Football Netball League season will kick off with round one under lights early April.
The bright lights of Reid Oval will come on when Warrnambool hosts the Koroit Saints on Friday, April 5.
The clubs will play their senior football and open netball fixtures at night, while the remaining football and netball grades will be played on Saturday, April 6.
It will be the second time the newly developed facility will host a Friday night fixture, with the last being in 2022.
Hampden league president Shane Threlfall believes the Warrnambool/Koroit clash will be a great way to officially open the 2024 season.
“It will be the first game of the opening round and it’s a great chance for people to come and have a look at some of the big star recruits coming into our league, particularly Ben Cunnington,” he said.
“It’s a great initiative from both Warrnambool and Koroit to move that game from the traditional Saturday to the Friday night.”
