Free cat desexing available
CORANGAMITE Shire Council has urged pet owners to take advantage of a free desexing program.
Eligible concession card holders can save money getting their cats desexed, microchipped and their first year of registration for free.
A Corangamite Shire Council program has been extended at Terang Veterinary Clinic, Hampden Veterinary Clinic in Cobden, Camperdown Veterinary Centre and The Vet Group in Timboon.
Corangamite Shire Council local laws officer Jasmine Pugh encouraged eligible cat owners to make the most of the offer.
“Desexing your cat can help reduce unwanted litters and the number of feral cats across the shire,” she said.
“Microchipping means if your cat does go wandering, we can reunite you straight away rather than impounding them which causes distress and might cost you in fees or fines.”
To be eligible, householders must have a concession card, be a Corangamite resident and their cat must be microchipped and registered, or be willing to have their pet microchipped and registered at the time of desexing.
Any additional veterinary costs outside the desexing/microchipping services (such as vaccinations) are not covered and must be paid by the owner.
To apply visit corangamite.vic.gov.au/cat, call the local laws team on 5593 7100 or drop into the Civic Centre at 181 Manifold Street, Camperdown.
For further information contact council’s local laws team on 5593 7100.
The Victorian Government has supported the Cat Desexing program, which will remain open until February 2026 or until funding runs out.
