First win eludes Bombers

COBDEN’S senior footballers are still without a win in 2025, going down 13.12.90 to 8.15.63 at Port Fairy on Saturday.

The Bombers went into the half-time break just two points down, with the home team kicking eight goals to four in the second half.

Jordan Fowler, Sam Lucas and Sam Thow were best for Cobden, while second gamer Campbell Walsh kicked his first goal at senior level and also featured in the best players.

Seventeen year-old Edmund Walsh made his senior debut, a week after his cousins Campbell and Parker Walsh.

Matthew Drayton and Thomas Spokes were the Bombers only multiple goal kickers, both kicking two.

It was a tough day for Cobden’s reserves, with Port Fairy running out winners 8.15.63 to 0.1.1.

Nicholas O’Connor was best for Cobden.

In under 18 football, Cobden was too strong, 7.7.49 to 4.9.33.

Kayden Daffy and Harvey Wiggins kicked two goals each, with Ollie Rial and Finn Castledine Cobden’s best.

The other junior football matches were played at Cobden on Sunday.

Port Fairy took the points in the under 16s, 11.15.81 to 4.7.31.

Micah Darcy kicked two goals and was best for the Bombers.

Cobden won a low scoring under 14 match 2.1.13 to 1.3.9.

Samuel Robertson, Xander Kent and Alby Jones were best for the Bombers.

Port Fairy was too strong in the under 12s, with a 9.6.60 to 1.4.10 win.

Thomas Dixon and Jack Bourke were Cobden’s best, with Bourke kicking the lone goal.

In the Open netball, Cobden scored its third successive win, 45-40.

Down by two goals at half-time, the Bombers lifted to outscore Port Fairy in the second half.

“Our ball usage wasn’t great for much of the game; we played smarter and got better the longer the game went on,” Cobden coach Nadine McNamara said.

“It was a hotly contested game throughout.”

Remeny McCann was best on court for her defensive game.

“Rem has had an interrupted start to the season but she was incredible for us.

“Sophie Hinkley was instrumental in the win; her leadership was exceptional.”

Molly Hutt with 19 goals and Jess Bouchier with 17 led the scorers for Cobden.

The Bombers sit outside the top five on percentage only.

“We’re just doing enough at the moment, we will look to keep building each week.”

Port Fairy scored a one goal win in division one netball, 41-40.

Hannah Anderson scored 16 goals for Cobden, with Molly Hutt and Jessica Walsh best for the Bombers.

Port Fairy had a 33-31 win in division two, with Hailey Mahony scoring 25 goals and Anna Dickson and Morgan Nelson Cobden’s best.

Cobden went down in the division three game 42-17;Tayla Hickey scoring eight goals with Eisha Howard best for the Bombers.

The 17 and under match saw Port Fairy get the points, 40-15.

Emily Hickey scored eight goals and Mia McVilly seven for Cobden.

The Bombers had a strong win in the 17 and under reserves.

Hannah Robertson shot 19 goals in a best on court performance.

Port Fairy took out the 15 and under netball 24-21.

Isabella Wain and Ava Bonner both shot nine goals for Cobden.

Cobden had a good win in the 15 and under reserves, 23-10.

Ava Bonner with 12 goals and Savannah Beames with nine were best for the Bombers.

Cobden got the points in the 13 and under netball, 34-16.

Stephanie Fleming and Charlotte Dean were best for the Bombers, with Dean scoring 26 goals.

The 13 and under reserves match ended in a 17-all draw.

Grace Barber and Emma Bonner were the Bombers best, with Barber scoring seven
