Finals hopes still alive
AN 88-point win last weekend has kept Woorndoo/Mortlake’s senior football finals hopes alive.

Hosting Great Western at the Woorndoo Recreation Reserve, a six goal to one opening term set the scene for the Tigers’ 20.21.141 to 8.5.53 win.
The Tigers kicked six goals in each of the first three quarters to lead by 125 points at the last change.
Great Western had its best quarter in the last, kicking five goals to three.
Kane Killen, Sam Gervasoni and Jack Richie were best for Woorndoo/Mortlake in the win.
Multiple goal kickers for the Tigers were James Coghlan West with four, Kane Maghamez, Matthew Pemberton and Damian McCorkell with three each and Matthew Carnelley with two.
Heading into the final round, Woorndoo/Mortlake sit half a game out of the five, and will host Wickliffe/Lake Bolac at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval this Saturday.
A win against the Magpies will see the Tigers then relying on the 11th placed Moyston/Willaura to beat Tatyoon (5th) to sneak into the top five.
Woorndoo/Mortlake also had a dominant win in the reserves, 18.11.119 to 3.8.26.
Tahi Pompey, Thomas Dark and Matthew Bourchier were best for the Tigers in the win.
Rhys Casson led the goal kickers with four, while Pompey and Zac Molan kicked three each.
Great Western was too strong in the under 16.5 football, recording a 19.21.135 to 1.1.7 win.
Bailey Fox, Johno Carmody, William Cameron and Gus Carmody were best for the junior Tigers, with Sam Mahncke kicking the only goal.
Woorndoo/Mortlake's A grade netballers are also still in finals contention after a 46-37 win over seventh placed Great Western.
“It was a really good win, we knew Great Western would come out hard but it was a really good hit out,” Tigers coach Bec Rohan said.
Goal shooter Brooke Richardson continued her strong season, shooting 35 goals and being named best for Woorndoo/Mortlake.
“Brooke was looking to retire at the end of last season; lucky for us she didn’t, she’s flipped her role completely from being a defender to now shooting goals for us,” Rohan said.
“She’s incredible at the club, always first to training, helps with the juniors and she’s a great mentor.”
Rohan was also impressed with the game of Jaime Killen.
“Jaime was great in the mid court, really good vocally and fed the ball into the ring really well.”
Like their senior footballers, Woorndoo/Mortlake’s A grade netballers are half a game out of the five heading into their final round match against 11th placed Wickliffe/Lake Bolac.
Fifth placed Glenthompson/Dunkeld will play Great Western.
“We are looking forward to training and playing at Mortlake this week,” Rohan said.
“Hopefully the other result goes our way but regardless of what happens we want to end our season strongly.”
The B grade game saw a 43-27 win to Great Western.
Lily Schuuring led the scoring for Woorndoo/Mortlake with 15 goals, Brodie Humphrey scoring 11.
