Expansion revealed

Expansion: The Terang Co-Op Mitre 10 has officially opened the doors to its highly-anticipated garden centre.

Doors this week opened to one of the largest expansions in the Co-Op’s history, with the new outdoor garden centre allowing for a significant expansion of the gardening and nursery stock available.

As Western District Newspapers reported in June, works had begun to transform the vacant space between the Mitre 10 and High Street into a thriving a nursey centre to accommodate an expansive range of shrubs, flowers and native plants.

The upgrade works were undertaken by WBK Building and Sargeant Plumbing to ensure local businesses benefit.

Terang Co-Op retail manager hardware division Jo Bailey said customers who had already paid a visit had heaped praise on the expansion.

“It’s been huge,” she said.

“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Everyone has loved it and we’ve had so many people saying they’ve been waiting for this.

“Customers just love the space and can’t believe what they’re walking into because it looks so good and is so full.”

Growth: The opening of the garden centre has allowed for a large expansion of products available locally.

Ms Bailey said the eye-catching expansion had helped bring in visitors from out of town, from those passing through to those visiting specifically to see the new-look store.

“We’ve had a lot of visitors who aren’t from town,” she said.

“I even had some ladies on Sunday come from Koroit because they had heard how good it was.

“It shows how positive the expansion has been, so hopefully we see more people coming into Terang on the weekends.”

Ms Bailey said the expanded range had proven a hit with customers as gardening was quite popular among the community.

“It’s hard to say just how much we’ve expanded because there’s so much more here,” she said.

“Plants are delivered every Thursday and the last few weeks we’ve received truckloads of plants with 10-15 pallets at a time when, previously, we could only store a few.

“Probably the best thing has been that we’ve now been able to put our plants in categories – that’s how much we’ve expanded to try and provide a little something for everyone.”

The garden centre will have an official opening celebration on Saturday, October 4 with a barbecue from 10am.

“We have specials running across the month so come down and have a look at what we’re showcasing,” Ms Bailey said.

“We’re excited for everyone to see our expanded range.”
