“Everybody is a bit disappointed”: Lismore Recreation Reserve Committee of Management president Stephen Ringe is disappointed by the spate of burglaries in Lismore last month.

A Police media spokesperson said three separate incidents were under investigation from January.

“Multiple offenders broke into the property on Station Road, on Monday, January 22,” the spokesperson said.

“Various tools were stolen including a chainsaw and compound saw.

“Later that day, it is believed the same offenders have attended the property again and broke into another building using an angle grinder and a lockbox was accessed.”

A third burglary occurred at the site on Monday, January 29 at about 7.30pm.

“It is understood that two offenders cut a lock to a shipping container and gained entry, however no property was stolen,” the Police media spokesperson said.

“The offenders are described as two males, with one man wearing orange fluro clothing.

“The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made.”

Lismore Recreation Reserve Committee of Management president Stephen Ringe expressed his disappointment at the break-ins.

“We have had break-ins here before, but it’s normally just been kids stealing a couple of cans of Coke,” he said.

“The fact that these people whoever they were, were definitely after money or something of higher value because they broke into the main building and went through all the cupboards and then broke into the social rooms and did the same thing in there.

“Everybody is a bit disappointed by it because it’s a community-run organisation and being the footy club, the netball club, the cricket club and the community’s hall; anything that happens is voluntary labour.”

Mr Ringe said there had been a number of break-ins and robberies around the district.

“It really brings it home how vulnerable you are to this sort of thing,” he said.

“If they’re desperate to steal something, they don’t care who, they’ll steal it.”
