Event planned to celebrate Moyne volunteers

IN COLLABORATION with the Southwest Community Foundation, Moyne Shire will host three events during National Volunteer Week to recognise the countless volunteers and community groups who help communities thrive.

The events will also provide an opportunity for networking and mutual learning, and will include a workshop on applying for and receiving grants and funding, and tips and tricks for acquiring and keeping volunteers.

Moyne Shire Council mayor Ian Smith said he was constantly reminded of the generous nature displayed by Moyne residents.

“We all benefit when the volunteers in our communities contribute their time, enthusiasm and knowledge,” he said.

“As residents we can all be grateful for our tireless community groups, sporting clubs, environment groups, volunteer emergency services and many more.

“As a council we are committed to supporting volunteer-based groups through grants such as our Community Assistance Fund, and Festival and Event Fund.”

All are welcome to these free community events, which will include a light afternoon or morning tea.

Events will be held across the shire including one in Mortlake on Thursday, May 23 from 10am at DC Farran Oval.

Tickets can be purchased online at https://events.humanitix.com/national-volunteers-week-mortlake/tickets.

To secure a seat and ensure dietary requirements can be met, attendees should book by Thursday, May 16 (today).
