Western District Newspapers captured photographs and videos of an Emu and its three chicks just outside Hexham.

According to Wildlife Victoria, recorded occurrences of emus in the Hexham area are few and far between.

However, they are found across Australia as they can move between 15-25 kilometres per day in search of food and water.

The Emu is Australia’s tallest native bird, standing up to two metres tall and weighing up to 55 kilograms.

Emus pair up in summer and autumn before mating in winter, with females typically laying between five and 15 eggs.
