AN East Framlingham foursome won the fifth Marie Astell Bowl, hosted by Camperdown Golf Club last Friday.

AN East Framlingham foursome won the fifth Marie Astell Bowl, hosted by Camperdown Golf Club last Friday.
Cheryl Carroll, Gwenda Malseed, Barb Hill and Jo Porter won with 78 points ahead of four teams that finished on 77 points.
Camperdown’s Jeanette Lambell, with guests Judy Myers, Marie Smith and Di McKenzie were declared runners-up after the count back.
The event is sponsored by the Astell family in memory of Marie Astell, an avid golfer and long-time member at Camperdown.
Visitors from 12 clubs around the state contested the event, including foursomes from Apollo Bay, Lorne, Midlands (Ballarat) and Chalambar (Ararat).
The bowl was decided for the first time by a round of gentsomes, a modified stableford format, and golfers battled through strong winds and heavy rain throughout the day.
J. Mounsey, B. Gove, P. Payne and L. McKenzie from Peterborough won the best nine out with 41 points, while the best nine in was won by a Warrnambool team of M. Abeline, A. Blake, H. Walcott and L. Wood with 40 points.
Nearest the pins were hard come by. Loretta Roberts (Peterborough) took the second hole, Judy Walsh (Timboon) the 15th and Louise Morse (Warrnambool) claimed the 17th hole.
