Derrinallum markets close for another season

THE Derrinallum Town and Country Markets have wrapped up for their season, with the Derrinallum Progress Association celebrating another three successful markets.

Market organiser Rae Pfeiffer said stallholders from the final market, which was held last month, have already booked a spot for the markets in November and January and March next year.

“It was great – the amount of the stalls we’ve got, and the quality of stalls we’ve got, it just blows us out of the water every month,” she said,

“I know some of the stallholders there are making really good money – they love coming here.”

The recent markets saw a wide variety of stalls, from homemade crafts to treats not found in town, and also included a demonstration and games from the Western Plains Machinery Preservation Group.

Ms Pfeiffer said the markets were also about giving back to the community, with a number of raffles held in the past to raise funds for community groups.

“The last market we had a raffle and the money came to the community garden to get garden beds,” she said.

“The one prior to that raised funds for the hub.

“The next market we’re having, funds are going to the Western Plains Machinery Preservation Group in Lismore, which is coordinated with the Men’s Shed.

“We used to do the raffles, but it’s very hard to get the donations so what we’re using now is the stallholder fees - that’s going back to the community to help all the community groups.”

The Derrinallum markets also raised funds to support the Rossiter family as part of a fundraising campaign across Derrinallum and Lismore last year.

Ms Pfeiffer said it was important the progress association gave back to the community in some form through the markets.

“I think we should all work together as a community and just help each other out,” she said.

“It’ll be a better town, better everything, for everybody.

“It’s what we’re there for.”
