Debut for female Bloods

ROUND one of the Western Victoria Female Football League competition saw the Terang Mortlake Bloods women make their senior competition debut.


Playing 2025 finalists Cavendish at Tyrendarra, the fast finishing Bloods fell just five points short of a memorable first up win, going down 6.9.45 to 6.4.40.

The first quarter saw both teams kick a goal each, with Cavendish getting out to a 12-point lead at half-time.

At the final change, the Bloods were 20 points down.

Terang Mortlake gave it their all in the last term, kicking three goals and three behinds, keeping Cavendish to a solitary goal to fall just short.

Sophie Curran led the Bloods goal kickers with three majors, with Tayla Bell, Morgan Edge and Rachel O'Keeffe kicking a goal each.

Best players for the Bloods were Melissa Benson, O'Keeffe, Bell, Curran, Isabelle Wood and Alison Kenna.

After a break for the Easter weekend, the Terang Mortlake women return on April 12 against Warrnambool at the Reid Oval, with the under 18 team to commence its season against the same opponents at the same ground that day.
