Crucial win for Lions
THE Corangamite Lions scored a crucial 3-2 win over fellow finals contender Ballarat in the round nine division one clash at Scotts Creek on Sunday.
Roman Fachetti opened the scoring for the Lions in the 10th minute, with Ballarat equalising four minutes later.
Andrea Traverso put the Lions back in front with a goal in the 26th minute.
Flavien Riviere scored his sixth goal of the season to put the Lions 3-1 up in the 81st minute.
“The boys played very well, we owned possession for the majority of the game,” Lions stand-in coach Jamie Norton said.
Ballarat scored a second goal in the 90th minute.
“By that stage we had pulled players off to rest,”Norton said.
The win keeps the Lions in fifth place, with a massive game this Sunday against second placed Forest Rangers at Scotts Creek.
The rest of the Lions teams had a tough day.
The division two game saw Ballarat record a 6-1 win.
James Wallace was the only goal scorer for Corangamite.
The Lions division one women, with some key players out, had a 0-7 loss.
The under 12 Lions played Victoria Park in Ballarat and had a 12-0 loss.
