Crews respond to Ridley’s fire

COUNTRY Fire Authority (CFA) crews from across the region united to bring a structure fire at the Ridley Corporation premises in Terang under control.

Units from across the region attended the scene where a small electrical fire had occurred.

“CFA responded to reports of a fire at around 6.14pm on Peterborough Road in Terang on Sunday, May 3,” A CFA spokesperson said.

“Seven CFA units attended the scene alongside Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria.

“Upon arrival, crews found a small electrical fire on a roller within a facility holding approximately three tonnes of grain.”

Advice was issued through the VicEmergency app informing the Terang community the structure fire was under control at 7.30pm but warned smoke would be visible.

Western District Newspapers understands heavy smoke caused CFA members to enter using breathing apparatus on the building’s interior to locate and extinguish the fire.

“The incident was deemed under control at 6.41pm and declared safe at 2.41am on Monday, May 4,” the CFA spokes person said.

“A fire investigation unit will investigate the cause.”
