Costly first quarter
CARAMUT had a 47-point loss to Hawkesdale/Macarthur in the round 15 senior football match at the Hawkesdale Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
After a tight first quarter, the home team increased its lead every quarter to record a 16.11.107 to 9.6.60 win.
“We didn’t take our chances in the first quarter even though we created enough opportunities to be in front,” lamented Caramut coach Scott Judd.
“Overall we were very competitive, the game ticked over both ways throughout.”
Damien Wynd kicked four goals in the loss for the Swans, with Judd kicking three.
“It was good to have Damien back, he gives us a strong option as a forward target,” Judd said.
Joel Harriss was best for the Swans in the loss.
“Joel was great in the midfield, he gives everything and adds toughness and class to our team.”
Ryan O’Connor and Thomas O’Sullivan were also among Caramut’s best.
“Ryan was good at full back while pinch hitting in the ruck, he adds experience to our backline,” Judd said.
“Thomas is a Caramut kid through and through, he’s down at Geelong College, plays for us when he can, he’s a really exciting young talent.”
This week, to finish the season Caramut will host Penshurst at the Caramut Recreation Reserve.
“It’s a tough game to finish the season, we want to finish on the right note with a good performance.”
Hawkesdale/Macarthur was too strong in the reserves game, winning 16.15.111 to no score.
Michael Rigby, Lachlan Purcell and Kyal Makepeace were the Swans best in the loss.
In the under 16.5s, Caramut had a 4.6.30 to 1.1.7 win.
Carl Lehmann, Spurs Lynch and Alex Hill were best for the junior Swans, who remain in second spot on the ladder.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur had a 51-27 win in the A grade netball.
WhawhaKiterangi Hapuku and Emilie Tonissen were best for Caramut, with Tonissen scoring 18 goals.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur had a 35-19 win in the B grade game.
Nada McCarroll and Olivia Meade were best for Caramut, with Yolie O’Sullivan scoring 13 goals.
In C grade, Caramut had a strong 31-6 win.
Rachel Hassett scored 19 goals in the win.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur won the 18 and under netball 41-28.
Maddi Calvert was best for the Swans, with Emilie Tonissen putting through 17 goals and Marli McRae eight.
Grace O’Sullivan and Alex Lehmann were best for Caramut’s 15 and under team in its 34-7 win.
Yolie O’Sullivan scored 27 goals in the Swans’ win.
Caramut had a dominant 33-5 win in the 13 and under netball.
Pippa Dufty and Montana Redmond were best for the junior Swans, with Alex Lehmann scoring 21 goals and Payson Walker eight.
