Corriedales this year’s feature breed
THE Corriedale has been announced as this year’s feature breed.
The Corriedale breed was developed in Australia and New Zealand around 1874 by selectively breeding Merino and Lincoln sheep.
This breed is known for its dual-purpose capabilities, producing both meat and wool.
Its key features include:
Adaptability – they thrive in various climates and can graze in diverse environments;
High-quality fleece – they produce a thick, soft fleece suitable for both wool production and meat;
Good maternal ability – they are known for their excellent mothering capacity, making them ideal for breeding;
Versatile forage – they can forage efficiently in various conditions, making them suitable for different farming environments.
The breed is valued for its ability to meet the demands of both meat and wool markets, making it a popular choice among sheep breeders worldwide.
* Entrants in this year’s show are reminded that all scanning breeds are to arrive before 12noon on Saturday, August 1.
All merinos and other breeds are to arrive before 6pm, on Saturday, August 1.
