Club pens historic sponsorship
THE Terang Harness Racing Club has entered a new era with the signing of a six-figure sponsorship contract – the largest in the club’s history.
Terang Harness Racing Club president Chris O’Connor said the club had last week put pen to paper on a five-year contract with online betting company Palmerbet.
“We’ve signed a five-year contract with Palmerbet to provide advertising for their product,” he said.
“The contract is mainly around signage and some promotion within our club.
“The signage will be at the Princes Highway and there will be additional track signage.
“They will, in return, support our club to a substantial five-figure sum each year for the next five years.”
Mr O’Connor said while the sponsorship is now the largest for the club, Palmerbet had happily agreed with the club’s push to maintain long-time local sponsors as its major sponsor.
“They will become our largest sponsor, but the Terang Co-Op will remain our major sponsor,” he said.
“There is a lot of loyalty and history with the Terang Co-Op so we’re very reluctant to offer anything there.
“They’ll remain our major sponsor, along with Matthews Petroleum who is our silver tier sponsor and a sponsor of the Trotter’s Cup.
“We’re keeping that in place, and Palmerbet is happy to work with us and be part of our sponsor merchandise promotion.”
Mr O’Connor said the agreement was significant for the club, not only on a local level but across the state.
“We’re very pleased to be able to be the first Victorian harness racing club to announce a major betting sponsor,” he said.
“We have a good relationship with a former director of Palmerbet who knows the value of our club in the community, and that’s why they’re keen to be a big supporter of the Terang Harness Racing Club.”
Mr O’Connor said the financial contribution would be significant in helping the club maintain stability through a time of global economic uncertainty, while also keeping a cautious eye on the possibilities for facility expansion.
“Terang has been proactive in investing back into facilities within the club,” he said.
“It costs a lot to maintain the standards which are required to put on first-class harness racing.
“A lot is expected of the club and, whilst we have a very strong volunteer base and some great staff, the ongoing costs of power and fuel – and all the other things relating to cost of living – does impact the club.
“To have this type of support to come in and assist with the really valuable sponsor base which we currently have will go a long way towards sustaining the club’s future.”
