The Eagles took the win, 10.13.73 to 10.9.69 but had to work hard for it.

“We won three of the four quarters but them getting on top in the second quarter cost us in the end,” Swans coach Scott Judd said.

The day had a sombre start, with both clubs honouring the life of former Caramut club member Sam McRae.

Judd rated ruckman Ethan Jenkins as best for the Swans, alongside midfielders Nathan Murphy and Harley Kelp.

“The boys were pretty disappointed after the game, we gave it everything.

“But we walk away with plenty of positives and we’ll keep working hard.”

Hawkesdale Macarthur were far too strong in the reserves, winning 10.28.88 to Caramut’s no score.
