Close finish for Dragons

BOORCAN made it two narrow wins in a row with a one wicket win in round three of the South West CA division two competition.


Heytesbury-Princetown Purple batted first in the match at Boorcan, making 5/168 from their 40 overs.

Will Rowbottom returned to the Boorcan line-up for the first time this season, leading the bowlers with 2/16 from eight overs, while new ball bowler Cain Mahoney impressed with 1/30 from eight.

Boorcan controlled the run chase for most of their innings until a flurry of late wickets saw the Dragons reduced to 9/165 with four runs required to win.

Angus Fraser and Toby Fleming got the team over the line in the 39th over in another tense finish for the Dragons.

This week in division two Boorcan has the bye.

In division three, the Dragons had a 110 run loss to Ecklin at Timboon High School.

The Frogs batted first and piled on 6/251.

Tony Hassett led the Dragons bowling with 4/31 from five overs.

Boorcan could only manage 8/141 in reply, opener Michael Carman top scoring with 42 from 63 balls including six fours, with Tony Hassett making 19 and Roger Horspole 17.

This week the division three Dragons host Camperdown at Boorcan.

Monday night’s under 13 game was washed out, this week the under 13 Dragons play Cobden at Camperdown number two.
