Clear skies
RAIN was scarce throughout May in what was the starkest example of the ongoing drought throughout 2025.

Throughout the month just 24.2mm of rain fell over Terang, almost 50mm below the long-term average of 74mm over the same period.
The highest daily result occurred on May 27 when 6.4mm of rain fell.
The figure, however, was slightly up from last year when just 16.2mm of rain was recorded over Terang in May 2024, with a highest daily result of 4.2mm.
The result brings the total rainfall recorded over Terang so far this year to 85.4mm, well below the 261.1mm expected over the same period.
Meanwhile in Mortlake, the skies were even clearer with just 13mm falling throughout May.
The highest daily rainfall was recorded on May 28 when 7.4mm of rain hit the ground – the majority of the monthly total.
The result was further down on the previous year.
Just 20.8mm of rain hit the ground in May 2024, with a highest daily result of 8.8mm.
The result brings the total to-date rainfall result for 2025 over Mortlake to 68.8mm, well below the 196.1mm expected over the same period.
