Chapple Vale fire spans multiple days
AN ESCAPED burn off in Chapple Vale led to an hours’ long fire fight as several local brigades tackled hills, gullies and tough conditions to get the flames under control.
The fire became out of control and required Country Fire Authority (CFA) intervention just after 2pm last Thursday, according to Colac Fire Brigade assistant chief fire officer Craig Brittain.
“It burnt through five acres and we had quite a number of CFA respond as well as several units from Forest Fire Management Victoria,” he said.
“They worked until dark and because of where it was on side of the valley, it was deemed to be unsafe for firefighting operating to continue.
“The fire was under control when they left.
“I want to urge caution in the community as we still have risk in the landscape and dry conditions.
“If you’re planning a burn off, please have plenty of water prepared, and log it with the CFA hot line.”
Due to heavy winds over the weekend, the fire in Chapple Vale was reignited, but was kept under control by CFA volunteers.
