Capturing Corangamite landscapes
THE landscapes of the Corangamite Shire have been brought to life through oil painting for this month’s monthly exhibition at the Camperdown Courthouse.
Melanie De Bree is the featured artist for this month’s exhibition, with her landscapes featuring locations such as Mount Elephant and Loch Ard Gorge.
Ms De Bree said she was drawn to many areas in the shire as she feels there are stories in the landscape – whether they remind her of a previous experience, an emotion or a memory.
“I feel really inspired by ancient and coastal landscapes, and I really feel Corangamite and surrounds is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow,” she said.
“It’s a painter’s paradise – I get a lot of inspiration from walking around and visiting places.
“The sky is really important to me because of the way it influences the land and ocean below with patterns and colours.
“I think there’s always meanings and symbolism in paintings.
“Sometimes they’re quite apparent when I’m there on location, and other times they reveal themselves during preliminary sketches or the painting process.”

Ms De Bree said she felt the opportunity to exhibit at the Courthouse, located at 179 Manifold Street, was fantastic.
“I hope people will come along, look and enjoy,” she said.
“They might find some meaning and messages in the paintings like I do.
“It’s about trusting the process – what needs to be expressed will be expressed.
“The main body of this work is oil painting – I’ve gotten back into oil painting and I just really love it.”
The exhibition, which was installed on Tuesday, will be on display until the end of April.
