Can you top four peaks
COMMITTEES of Mount Noorat, Mount Leura, Mount Sugarloaf and Mount Elephant are gearing up for this year’s Four Peaks Challenge, with residents invited to see if they can summit Corangamite’s four peaks in one day.

Four Peaks Challenge organiser John Fallon said the seventh annual challenge looks to build on the success of previous years.
“We hope to continue the tradition of promoting the volcanic reserves in the south west – Mount Noorat, Mount Leura, Mount Sugarloaf, and Mount Elephant,” he said.
“It’s a good way of getting people out and about and walking to the top of these four reserves which are open to the public.
“The emphasis is on getting to know the reserves, having a good time, getting to see the views and accepting the challenge and achieving it.
“As always, people can walk the four mountains at their own pace.
“We meet up at Mount Leura to begin with, then people walk at their own speed and then finish the day at their own times.”
Participants will meet at the Volcanic Education Centre at the base of Mount Leura at 9.30am on Sunday, April 19 to take on the first two summits of the challenge.
A coffee van will be onsite at Mount Leura for those who need a caffeine hit before taking on the challenge.
Mr Fallon encouraged anyone looking to participate to ensure they had sturdy footwear and were dressed for the weather.
“We’re hoping for cooler weather,” he said.
“One year we had 35 degrees in April, but it looks like this year will be a lot cooler.
“This will make it easier for people to successfully complete the challenge.
“We also hope people who have done it in the past come back and have another go at it this year, as well as attracting new people to the area.”
Participants are advised to bring their own morning tea, lunch, snacks, drinks, sunscreen and camera or binoculars.
“People need to realise it is across the four mountains, so you need to bring your own transport,” Mr Fallon said.
“The day starts at 9.30am at the base of Mount Leura where people will attempt the first two mountains followed by whichever of Mount Noorat or Mount Elephant they choose to do next.
“We have the cooperation of all the management committees across all the reserves.
“Mount Elephant is only open on a Sunday, while the other reserves are open at all times.”
