Upgrade: Mackinnons Bridge will receive upgrades after the Victorian Government announced almost $800,000 in the budget for works.

Last Tuesday it was announced the State Government will be upgrading Mackinnons Bridge, over Mt Emu Creek.

Western District Newspapers understands the works will total in at $797,000.

The works will fall under what the Victorian Government has touted as the biggest investment in road maintenance in the state’s history.

It was revealed under the budget roads will receive a $976 million expenditure under the Better Roads Blitz, which is aimed squarely at fixing potholes, repairing and resurfacing roads and bridges across the state.

There will also be a $1.2 billion Roads Blitz in partnership with the Federal Government to tackle congestion and improve safety and connectivity.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne said the funding for Mt Emu Creek bridge fell under a $44 million investment to improve local roads.

“We delivered record roads funding last year and this Budget will deliver even more, while boosting the amount of freight we move by rail – a win for regional Victoria,” she said.

Western District Newspapers contacted the Victorian Government seeking further information on the specifics of the upgrades, including when works are expected to start, but no response was received prior to publication.
