Bloods on the winners' list

TERANG Mortlake coach Lewis Taylor was a happy man after the Bloods had their first senior football win of the 2025 season on Anzac Day.

Played in front of a huge crowd at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval last Friday, the Bloods defeated Cobden 11-17-83 to 5-16-46.

“It was a pleasing performance, we got back to what we have been working on,” Taylor said.

The day also marked a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Mortlake’s 1975 Hampden League premiership.

“It was great to have so many of the old Mortlake people around, the atmosphere was fantastic,” Taylor said.

“It was great to chat to so many of them after the game about what it all meant to be celebrating 1975 and playing this game at Mortlake.”

Cobden hit the half-time break with a three point lead, but the Bloods stamped their authority with seven goals to one in the second half.

“The second half was really pleasing, we came out and played with urgency and played the style we want to play.”

Teenager Sam Wareham made his senior debut, impressing his coach.

“Sam’s a really talented young player, a Mortlake kid, he kicked a goal and contributed well.

“All our young players stood up and contributed.”

Cobden won the reserves, 10-6-66 to 7-4-46.

For Terang Mortlake, Hamish Hobbs kicked four goals and was named best player alongside Daniel Kenna and Damien Goddard.

Cobden had a 17 point win in the under 18 football, 8-7-55 to 6-2-38.

Ollie Guthrie kicked three goals for the Bloods, with Levi Draffen, Tayte McMaster and Tinotenda Mukucha among the best players.

The remaining junior football matches were played at Cobden on Sunday.

The under 16 Bloods had a comprehensive victory, 20-19-139 to Cobden’s no score.

Vice-captain Mason Barr bagged eight goals, with Tayte McMaster backing up again to be named as best alongside Jesse Fowler and Tyler Ackerly.

Cobden had a big win in the under 14s, 12-14-86 to 1-3-9.

Bradley Wallace and Oliver Clarke were best for Terang Mortlake.

The Bloods took out the under 12 match 6-3-39 to 3-0-18.

Braxton Sachs kicked three goals for Terang Mortlake, with Zac Clarke, Archer Gleeson, Connor Jewell and Ruby Ferrier named best players.

In the Open netball, Terang Mortlake had a six goal loss, 44-50.

Eboni Knights shot 26 goals, with Jacqui Arundell 18, while Alice Kain and Lara Clarke were named as Terang Mortlake’s best.

In division one Cobden won 46-30; Lyla Grundy with 16 goals for Terang Mortlake and Jessica Davis with 12, while Sarah Davis and Lila Bennett were the Bloods best.

The division two netball match saw Cobden take the win 28-23.

For the Bloods, Holly Fowler shot 13 goals with Caitlin Overweter named as best.

Ava Nolan scored 22 goals in the division three game, Terang Mortlake winning 43-22.

The 17 and under game saw the Bloods have a comprehensive 57-16 win.

Lyla Grundy scored 32 goals and Lara Clarke scored 20, that pair (along with Lila Bennett) named as Terang Mortlake best.

The Bloods’ also won the 17 and under reserves game 25-19.

Maddison Wallace was named best for Terang Mortlake, while Isla Primrose shot 16 goals.

Terang Mortlake took out the 15 and under netball 33-14.

Madelyn Clarke scored 24 goals with Mckenzie Dillon best on court for the Bloods.

Seventeen goals to Chloe Bouchier and 14 to Tahnee Sachs led the Bloods to a 31-17 win in the 15 and under reserves, with Mikala Madzerevic named best on court.

Cobden had a four goal win in the 13 and under netball, 22-18.

For the Bloods, Poppy Moloney scored 12 goals and Imogen Barr was named as best player.

Cobden won the 13 and under reserves 16-5.

For Terang Mortlake, Isabella Robertson shot four goals and Shania Madzarevic was named best player.
