Bloods back on winners’ list

TERANG Mortlake returned to the winners’ list with a 36 point win in the round 15 senior football match at Hamilton’s Melville Oval on Saturday.


The Bloods led at every change in the 11.12.78 to 6.6.42 win; their eighth victory of the season.

“It was good to get the win, we knew we had to come in expecting a tough contest,” Bloods coach Lewis Taylor said.

“Hamilton are always tough at home.”

The Bloods kicked four goals to one in the first quarter, with Hamilton reducing the margin to nine points at the main break.

Both teams kicked two majors in the third term, with an inaccurate Bloods also kicking eight behinds.

The visitors ran away in the last term, keeping the home team goalless while kicking four of their own.

“We had a really good first quarter, in the second and third the game became a real contest,” Taylor said.

“We had to lift for the last quarter and it was pleasing that we did.”

Will Moloney and Joe Arundell were best for Terang Mortlake in the win.

“Will was spot on all day, he just competes, he’s slotted into the backline nicely.

“Just another good game from Joe, he’s been consistently good all year.”

Taylor was also full of praise for teenagers Josh Slater and under 16 player Jesse Fowler who made his senior debut.

“Jesse on debut was fantastic, Josh is playing well every week,” Taylor said.

“With those two lads we don’t worry about them playing their role, we know they will perform.”

The Bloods have this week off during the split round, resuming with a home game against Port Fairy on August 16.

“The week off has come at a good time for us,” Taylor said.

“We know we’ve got to keep playing good footy to make finals.”

In the reserves football, Hamilton had a big 13.10.88 to 1.5.11 win.

Daniel Allan, Will Berryman and Josef O'Sullivan were best for the Bloods, with Chris Bant kicking the lone goal.

The under 18 game also saw Hamilton dominant, the Kangaroos registering a 14.15.99 to 0.1.1 win.

Hamish Molan, Lachlan Primmer and Eitan Brooks were best for the Bloods.

In the under 16s, Terang Mortlake recorded a 7.5.47 to 6.4.40 win.

Tayte McMaster, Lachlan Primmer and Samuel Membrey were best for the Bloods, with Membrey kicking two goals.

The under 16 Bloods finish the home and away season in third place, and will play Warrnambool in the qualifying final this Sunday at Port Fairy’s Gardens Oval.

In the under 14 game, Hamilton had a 64 point win, 8.10.58 to 0.4.4.

Nate Irving, Rupert Vaughan and Bradley Wallace were best for Terang Mortlake.

The under 14 Bloods finish the home and away season in 10th place.

Hamilton had a 6.5.41 to 0.1.1 win in the under 12 football.

Jackson Irving, Darcy Meade and Zac Clarke were best for the junior Bloods.

The Open netball saw Hamilton run out 48-41 winners.

Pippa Barr, Jacqui Arundell and Lyla Grundy were best for Terang Mortlake, Grundy scoring 25 goals and Arundell 16.

In the division one netball, Hamilton recorded a 38-29 win.

Sarah Davis and Claudia Lee were best for Terang Mortlake, with Lyla Grundy scoring 20 goals.

Hamilton got the points in division two with a 49-43 win.

Holly Fowler scored 28 goals and Tess McKenzie nine for the Bloods, with Kaitlyn Lee and Holly Fowler best.

Hamilton scored a 62-24 win in the division three game.

Sophie Conheady and Ruby Lang were best for the Bloods, with Conheady scoring 13 goals.

Terang Mortlake registered a 36-31 win in the 17 and under game.

Pippa Barr and Holly Jones were best for the Bloods, with Lyla Grundy putting through 23 goals.

Terang Mortlake had the bye in the 17 and under reserves football.

In the 15 and under netball, Hamilton scored a 37-20 victory.

Madelyn Clarke and Zoe Hill were best for Terang Mortlake, with Clarke scoring 11 goals.

In the 15 and under reserves, Hamilton scored a 39-17 win.

Kara Bell and Lucia Clarke were best for the Bloods.

Hamilton had a 39-8 win in the 13 and under netball.

Kara Bell and Matilda Conheady were best for Terang Mortlake.

The 13 and under reserves game saw Hamilton win 21-13.

Francesca Rickard and Shania Madzarevic were best for Terang Mortlake, with Isabella Robertson scoring seven goals.
