Bargains galore raises funds for a cause
HOMES across Mortlake joined forces for a special community garage sale over the weekend which raised funds for the McGrath Foundation and the Country Women’s Association evening branch (CWA).

Mortlake CWA evening branch president Jill Clingan said the day had been a success in raising funds, while helping households across the town put a little extra money in their pockets while parting with unwanted goods.
“We’ve been doing it for the past few years, and there’s been a lot of support for it,” she said.
“We examine each year if we need to run it - the community tells us if they’d like to have one, so we’ve found it to be well received.
“It’s also a good fundraiser for us, and we ask for a gold coin donation for maps to the participating homes and we find people are very generous – often donating more than they need to.
“It’s great; we normally give it to a worthy cause – this year being the McGrath Foundation.
“We also hold a sausage sizzle on the side, with proceeds going to the Country Women’s Association to support our efforts in the region.”
Ms Clingan said this year there were 24 households participating, and well in excess of 100 maps sold.
“There was 25 the year before so it shows the demand and popularity for the event is still strong,” she said.
“It ran well with the Mortlake Gift, with the town being a little busier, and we’re finding if people didn’t want a sausage when they got the map they were still happy to come back and grab one later.”
