Angling club celebrates
COBDEN Angling Club celebrated a successful year at their presentation night recently.
On Friday, August 1, a large crowd gathered at the Cobden Golf Club entertainment room for their annual trophy presentation night.
President Bryan Poole welcomed the crowd and also thanked the Curdievale anglers for attending their card nights.
“We’re pleased to see members from Purrumbete, Curdievale and Camperdown clubs joining us,” he said.
“Special thanks to secretary Les Blake and treasurer Russell Smith for their work in preparation for the evening.
“Thank you as well to all members for their valuable support over the past 12 months.
“Your contribution to working bees, attendance at meetings and getting involved in club trips helps to create an enjoyable, friendly environment for our club.”
Cobden Angling Club member Michael Merrett said the club was saddened by the passing of life member John Wilkinson, a committed and long-time member of the club who served as president for a number of years.
Life member David Staggard presented trophies to 22 individual winners, as well as four special trophies – the Mounsey Memorial, the Cow Cocky’s Cup, the Claude Smith Memorial and the Warrnambool Timber Industry Competition against Curdievale, which was won by Curdievale.
At the conclusion of the presentation ceremony, Mr Poole thanked everyone for coming along and supporting the evening.
“We are fortunate to receive fabulous support from our community, businesses and members – they make this night possible,” he said
Mr Poole congratulated all trophy winners and wished everyone all the best for the coming year.
He reminded the crowd everyone is welcome to attend angling club meetings which are held at 8pm at the clubrooms at Lake Elingamite on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
