All fun and games for fundraiser
AN AFTERNOON of games helped the Friends of Rodney Grove (FORG) fundraising group inch closer to an incredible $40,000.
The fundraising games day was held at the Rodney Grove Gym on Sunday afternoon to boost the tally which the group has raised in hopes of reopening the doors to the Rodney Grove Aquatic Centre.
FORG chair Lesley Brown said she was elated with the success of the afternoon.
“We had games including jenga, connect four, finska, quoits and cornhole,” she said.
“They’re all large games which were spread around the room, while Father Matthew Jones held a flower pot game in which people put a flower pot on their head while others threw nerf balls and tried to get them in the flower pots.
“We also had an egg and spoon race.”
Mrs Brown said the simple concept had been generously supported by the wider community.
“There was around 30 people who came along on the day,” she said.
“We had a few of our members in addition to others coming from as far as Terang and Warrnambool.
“We raised $365 in just two hours, which we think was pretty good.
“I didn’t expect to be able to raise that much money but people are very generous and want to give to the cause.”
Mrs Brown said FORG would now turn its focus to an upcoming trivia event, which she hoped would further strengthen the fundraiser’s results.
“It will be held on July 12 from 2-4pm at the Cobden Bowls Club,” she said.
“People can call me to make a booking and we encourage them to bring along some nibbles to have on their table.
“We’ll have drinks at bar prices and some raffles and prizes throughout the afternoon.
“We think it’ll be fun while we maintain lower overheads to make a bit of money for the cause.”
